UTS has announced that Frank Gehry will develop a concept design for the university’s new Faculty of Business, as part of the UTS master plan.

The university said that Gehry was in Sydney “to continue discussions initiated by the University in October”.

Professor Ross Milbourne, Vice-Chancellor and President of UTS, said: “This once in a lifetime opportunity offers the University a chance to build something extraordinary as part of our Campus Master Plan. It demonstrates our commitment to deliver the best possible learning, teaching and research experience for UTS students and staff.”

Professor Milbourne added that the university "sought out Frank Gehry because his work so brilliantly reflects the nexus between creativity and technology that embodies the innovative thinking so characteristic of UTS.”

Gehry received the Pritzker Prize in 1989, and has received several AIA awards, including the AIA Los Angeles Chapter Gold Medal. The world’renowned architect, based in Los Angeles, has designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Experience Music Project in Seattle as well as the Marqués de Riscal vineyard hotel in Spain.

Sydney will learn if it is to be home to Australia’s very own Gehry building some time next year.
